If someone was on a diet, but didn't want to give up their favorite foods, what is the best advice for them about eating habits? |

How is it a "diet" if they are not giving up on some of their favorite foods? Are their favorite foods unhealthy? The word "diet" is looked at as a negative word. When I teach my 7th graders about nutrition I use the word "healthy lifestyle". We use the USDA.gov website and they input their height, weight and approximately how much exercise. The website will calculate how many calories and ounces in each food group. Have them keep a food journal and exercise. Hope that helps. |

Diet is actually what you are eating. For years we were all going on a "diet" as if we never had one but I guess it should have been called a restricted diet. Since the majority failed we need a new name. Silly. btw I was married to a clinical dietician for 25 years. |

I believe that the best way for someone who may be on a "diet" to have their favorite foods would to be have what they like in moderation. Being on a "diet" doesn't mean you have to give up everything you love. I have found that there are always alternatives and healthier ways to have what they like to eat. If you cut everything out all of the time and never give yourself a break, you will more than likely crash and overeat. To stay on track I would say to have things that you like in moderation, and choose healthier versions of what combinations of food you like. |

In my eyes I believe a "diet" is when a person looks out for what he or she eats on a daily basis. Everyone has their favorite foods and enjoy eating them. When eating your favorite foods you can always have a healthy outlook. If individuals eat their meals in proper portions their "diet" will be a lot easier for them to do. This will allow the individual to not be drained by the stress of what to eat and not to eat. |
